In this lesson, we discuss the first of three methods of rectification. Below left is a QuickTime video of the elbow method of rectification. On the right is the typical error that occurs without rectification that we presented in the last lesson.
The key to this movement is the extension of the elbow away from the body as illustrated in the Shockwave video below. If you are unable to see this video, please contact us. In the above video, we have placed a vertical arrow under the elbow to bring attention to how the elbow moves to rectify the acceleration movement into the strike movement. Note how it is extended away from the body and how this results in the racquet moving straight into the ball instead of hooking the ball, as will typically happen when rectification is not successful. In the next lesson, we discuss the shoulder method of rectification.
