High Forehand Type Two
|
We have discussed the Type One high forehand in a previous lesson. Here we discuss the second high forehand. Whereas the Type One high forehand uses the shoulder by drawing it back as if standing at attention, the Type Two high forehand uses the shoulder in an entirely different manner. The use of the shoulder in the Type Two high forehand is similar to the closed-stance closed-shoulder forehand. A second key point in addition to how the shoulder is used is the placement of the elbow well in front of the body plane, as with a standard forehand. The Type Two high forehand is a standard forehand, where the racquet is directed upward at an angle sufficient to reach the ball. But unlike a standard forehand, the forearm can play a significant role in projecting the racquet forward into the ball, thus providing an additional source of acceleration beyond that provided by the upper arm rotation. For further comparison of these two strokes, see the next lesson. |
