Eastern Forehand, Part II

In this lesson, we take a closer look at the eastern forehand based on video analysis. Below left is one possible takeback position for a flat ball using the eastern forehand.

Below left is the contraction position, and on the right is the rollover of the transition from the takeback to the contraction position.

Below left is the acceleration position with corresponding rollover image. The acceleration has two sources: shoulder contraction and upper arm extension.

Below left is the strike position with the corresponding rollover on the right.

In order to obtain a good straight-line interval, you must use forearm extension as a minimum. Since the eastern grip reduces the angle between the forearm and upper arm, there is less punch available than with the western grip.
